Twenty-three year old Laura Plyler is an actress/singer/dancer newly based out of New York City. From her childhood in Miami, her life seemed always destined for the arts. From dance training beginning at the age of three to being recruited for the elementary choir at age seven, her life has been deeply rooted in the arts from the beginning.
With exceptional sight reading abilities from a young age and a naturally skilled ear, she carried her passion for both music and dance throughout both her elementary and secondary education. Over time, Laura was accepted into several school and state choirs while balancing a rigorous and demanding studio schedule with Dance Empire of Miami's Elite Company.
The combination of raw talent and continuous training paved the way to acceptance in highly ranked magnet schools around Miami which significantly expanded her musical theatre repertoire in her years at Coral Reef Senior High's magnet choral academy. Traditionally staging Fall Operas and Spring Musical Reviews, the program quickly recruited her as Choreographer and ultimately Show Coordinator for three of her four years. While she loved teaching and choreography, she finally satiated her hunger for the stage by auditioning for Miami Children's Theatre as a sophomore. A turning point for Laura, she began to immerse herself in her musical theatre journey.
Laura continued her pursuits as a Bachelor of Music/Musical Theatre major at The Florida State University in 2012, graduating in the Spring of 2016. She was cast in lead roles such as Juliet (Romeo and Juliet) and Diana Morales (A Chorus Line) in FSU's main-stage productions. Her senior year culminated in a spring semester solo recital as well as the Musical Theatre senior showcase at the Alvin Ailey Theatre in New York City.
Laura began her Regional & Summer stock theatre career in 2015 in Warsaw, Indiana at Wagon Wheel Center for the Performing Arts, returning for the summer of 2016. Here, she played roles such as Anybodys (West Side Story), Hermia (A Midsummer Night's Dream), Amy March (Little Women) and Marty (Grease). She also served as Dance Captain for select shows at Wagon Wheel and loved being immersed in the amazing insanity of summer stock theatre. Once she caught her breath, Laura made her move to New York City is actively auditioning as an Equity Membership Candidate.
Currently, Laura is more than grateful to be playing a dream role as Wendla in Spring Awakening at The Warehouse Theatre in Greenville, SC through June 10th, working as Assistant Choreographer/Dance Captain for the production as well. She is optimistic and excited to be in this present moment, and is eager to see what opportunities God has in store for her as she journeys into her future.
